No re-mix rights for Yuvan, says Ilayaraja

There is a vast discrepancy in the success rates of the two sons of Ilayaraja, viz Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar. Though these two started their career in the tinsel world almost at the same time, Karthik is not able to click like his younger sibling.

This has created some kind of anxiety in the mind of their legendary father. On the other hand, Yuvan has already carved a niche for himself and has reached a level where music albums are sold just for his name. Yuvan is slowly taking the place of Rahaman and has developed a style for himself.

Wanting to do something for his elder son, Ilayaraja has given all the remix rights of his songs for Karthik. Attempts are also being made to make Kamalhassan sing the re-mix songs. Popular singers also have been approached for this venture. The response that remix songs have been receiving is quite noteworthy.

Re-mix is very popular especially with the younger population. Hence, as a father Ilayaraja does not want to leave any stone unturned for his elder son Karthik. Whether Yuvan would use his dad’s songs for remixing any more should be waited and watched.

Guru VS Nayagan

Will Ace Director Mani Ratnam's forthcoming film GURU (2006) will hit his Masterpiece Nayagan (1987)?

Prem Joshua & Inner Space Live In Concert

To all Prem Joshua fans out there!! The Temple of Fine Arts (TFA) and the Vijayaratnam Foundation proudly presents PREM!! (Prem Joshua & the musicians of TFA's Inner Space live in concert)

Multi instrumentalist & composer prem Joshua is a pioneer in the field of World Music, exploring & creating a new synthesis in sound which takes us beyond the borders of both east & west.

Haunting melodies on the sitar, bamboo flute & soprano sax soar over driving tabla rhythms - ancient sanskit & sufi poems are re-awakened by captivating songs & chants. And while drawing inspirations from these deep wells of the musical traditions of the east, Joshua has never lost touch with the pulse of contemporary western music. over the years he has continued to refine his awesome talent for fusion, mixing meditative classical indian ragas with highly energetic compositions, modern cutting-edge sounds & grooves, to create a music both distinctive & unique.

He is now the number 1 bestselling world music artist in India and the daily newspaper 'The Times of India' has lauded him as the new 'Guru of Fusion'.In 2003, the BBC nominated him for its prestigious 'World Music Listeners Award'.

In early 2005, MTV invited Joshua & his band to give a half-hour live performance during one of their regular MTV live shows in Bombay. His performance was broadcast on TV several times - a rare opportunity for a musician of his genre to be featured on a TV music channel that otherwise concentrates mainly on mainstream music.

Besides being busy with composing & studio recording, Prem Joshua has always been a passionate live performer - he is as much at home on a stage in Bombay as in the clubs of New York, touring the globe for almost 7 months each year. In Malaysia, Joshua performs live alongside multiple award winning musicians of TFA's Inner Space - Jyotsna Prakash, Kumar Karthigesu & Prakash Kandasamy, themselves highly acclaimed musicians & composers, to create a 2 hour music concert that will take east - west fusion music to an entirely new dimension, that is at once soulful, meditative & exciting. Together making up a symphony comprising of the sitar, bamboo flute, soprano saxophone, piano, keyboards & table, PREM promises to be a night of sheer enjoyment & musical fulfillment.

Surya jhotika

Chennai, Sept 11:

Capping their nearly three-year-long love affair, celebrity Tamil film actors Surya and Jothika today entered into wedlock in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and members of the Tamil celluloid world.

Also present was Union IT and Communications Minister Dayanidhi Maran. Nearly an hour after Karunanidhi and Maran left the venue, AIADMK supremo and former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa also visited and blessed the couple.

While Jothika sported a pink silk saree with gold border and wearing diamond rings and necklace, Surya was wearing pure white silk full shirt and dhoti.

Top film stars who attended the wedding included Rajinikanth, his wife and daughter, Kamal Haasan, Sathyaraj, Abbas and Prasanth.

Surya's father and popular actor of yesteryear Sivakumar and his family members were there to receive the guests.
On August 5, Sivakumar announced the wedding of Surya with Jothika ending speculations about their romance that were doing rounds in the Kollywood.

Jothika, daughter of Chander Sadanah, is also a cousin of another popular actress Nagma.
Coming together on screen for the first time in 'Poovellam Kettu Paar', the duo paired in about 10 films, including 'Uyirile Kalandadhu' and 'Kaaka Kakka'.

Surya with his success in 'Ghajini' had broken into the top five heroes category while Jothika's latest hit was Rajinikanth starrer 'Chandramukhi', a box-office hit.

Both have bagged several awards, including the best actor and actress award given by the Tamil Nadu government.

Rajini's money matters

Everybody knows Rajnikanth is the highest paid actor in India, and he is said to be the second highest paid actor in Asia, next only to Jackie Chan.

Sources said that he got around Rs.20 crores for 'Chandramukhi', while other Tamil actors like Kamal commands only Rs.5 to 7 crores per film, Vijay gets 4 crores, Ajith gets 3.5 crores and so on. However, Rajini has a surprise for everyone this time around.

His magnum opus 'Sivaji', produced under AVM banner is even bigger than 'Chandramukhi'. So, everybody would wonder how much he would be paid. However, the truth tells another story. He has not spoken about his fee to the producer yet.Surprisingly, AVM Saravanan has revealed that Rajini has received only Rs.1, 500 for his role so far though major portion of the film has been completed.

Everybody including the superstar is secretive about the storyline of the film. A R Rehman has already completed four songs out of the five

"Me? A Copywriter?" Workshop

"Me? A Copywriter?" Workshop

The Advertising industry needs more lawyers, bankers and doctors.

Nope, we're not criminals, in debt or sick (although some people may think otherwise),
but did you know that a lot of successful people in the advertising industry didn't start out studying advertising? Some even started in a totally different career, like the ones mentioned above. So why did they switch to advertising? For some, it was the opportunity to be creative, to solve puzzles, crack problems.

For others, it sounded exciting. And for a few, well, they just liked the idea of being able to wear jeans to work every day.Whatever their reasons, once they got in... they got hooked. There's nothing quite like the thrill of seeing your work in the newspapers or even on TV.And if you're really good at it, there's no limit to how much money you can earn or how fast and how high you can climb.Interested?

This is how you can get in...If you are good in English, and you enjoy being creative, you can learn to be a Copywriter. You don't need art skills, just the ability to come up with fresh ideas and use words to move people. Oh, and a sense of curiousity is an advantage too (it may kill a cat, but it inspires a true copywriter).

If you'd like to find out more abouy copywriting as a career, come for the one day "Me? A Copywriter?" workshop at 95% The Writers Academy.

You'll meet Janet Lee, a Creative Director who has won over 80 awards in her 20 years experience. She'll give you a taste of what a Copywriter's life is like and you'll see if you're cut out for it or not.It may open up a whole new career path for you.

Krishen Jit ASTRO Fund

Krishen Jit ASTRO Fund Application

The Krishen Jit ASTRO Fund has been created by ASTRO to encourage and support creative work in Malaysia.

Download Application PDF

One of the main objectives of Krishen’s pioneering work was celebrating original Malaysian creativity in as varied and alternative ways as possible in all the areas of the arts. His groundbreaking theatre practice straddled and brought together a wide range of contesting spheres, producing projects that were inter-disciplinary, multi-cultural, multi-lingual and experimental. Negotiating between academia and practice, tradition and contemporary pop culture, Hollywood and Bollywood, the mainstream and the marginalized, Krishen’s work articulated a Malaysian identity that was ever evolving and encouraged practitioners and audiences to reflect on their lives and societies. This is the spirit of the Krishen Jit ASTRO Fund.

The fund will give out grants ranging from RM5,000 to RM20,000 for :

• Training

• Workshops

• Attachments/residencies

• Research and documentation

• Writing

• Creating new work in music, dance, theatre, writing, visual/performance art

• Others

Vetaiyadu Velaiyadu review

So as you guys knoe last week I , Balan and MS went for this movie.. this is the review for the most awating movie of the year:

Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu is a police story that places emphasis on brain rather than brawn. It is an involving police procedural that handles a different subject(for Tamil cinema) in a different way(again, for Tamil cinema) and is a worthy follow-up to Kaakka Kaakka for Gautham.

Raghavan(Kamalhassan), a DCP (Crime Branch) in Chennai, is brought in by his friend Arokiaraj (Prakashraj), whose daughter has been brutally raped and killed. With almost no clues to what seems like a random killing, Raghavan is forced to bid a sad goodbye to Arokiaraj and his wife, who leave for New York to try and forget the past. But another tragic news takes Raghavan to New York, where he works with NYPD to apprehend some killers. Meanwhile, he meets Aradhana(Jyothika), who stays in the same hotel, and becomes good friends with her.

VV is probably the closest Tamil cinema has come to a real police procedural. Kamal finds his targets with real, painstaking police work rather than easy-to-find clues or obvious witnesses. We are with him every step of the way as he questions witnesses, uncovers clues and puts the pieces of the puzzle together. We understand his dedication and the scene where he listens to his own notes on the Dictaphone is an insightful glimpse into how he works. But Gautham cheats when its time to put the final pieces together. He connects the initial dots patiently but as he nears the final dots, he relies on the cop’s instinct or coincidence or the bad guys’ bravado to finish the picture.

VV has a protagonist and a villain who are equally matched and nowhere is this more evident that in the tense one-on-one encounter they share in an apartment. Balaji’s psychotic desperation and Kamal’s never-say-die attitude make their meeting fascinating and it is never clear meeting who the hunter and the hunted are. It is a tense, thrilling scene whose rawness and intensity is not in evidence at any other point in the film.

The film is essentially one long chase as Kamal tries to first uncover and then nab, one or more serial killers. Initially, his pursuit seems real as he grasps at straws in his chase of the men, who are little more than ghosts to him. His MO is interesting and the excitement is palpable when he gets closer to them. But as the chase nears the end, the proceedings become more cinematic with the killers indulging in very cinematic activities like moving in and out of disguises and taunting Kamal. It is definitely good movie making with the proceedings being tense and intense. It just doesn’t deliver on the cerebral promise the movie made when it started.

Almost the opposite happens in the relationship between Kamal and Jyothika While we’ve met characters who grow on us in other movies, here’s a relationship that grows on us. The initial meeting between Kamal and Jyothika is straight out of romance novels with a damsel in distress and her knight in shining armor. Their relationship from then on is built almost completely on coincidences (they even manage to get out of their hotel rooms at the same moment!). But it is developed in a way that pushes even the serial killer to the background. Their tentativeness beautifully reflects the heavy baggage each of them is carrying. The two share some wonderful conversations and even more wonderful silences.

One feels that even Gautham understood this shift in importance of the two relationships as the movie proceeds. So, what was a serial killer story with a romance thrown in, becomes a romance with a serial killer sidetrack! While stories about serial killers always throw in a twist or two, it is the Kamal-Jyothika track that gives us a bigger surprise here. The time afforded to Kamal and Jyothika increases as the movie proceeds and in the end, the relationship between Kamal and Balaji is terminated quite abruptly while the closure to Kamal’s relationship with Jyothika takes a lot longer.

It is almost a pleasure to see Kamal looking like Kamal instead of being hidden under layers of makeup or having a different hairstyle or getup for the sake of being different. I’m not sure if the bags under his eyes in the close-ups and the noticeable paunch under his tucked-in shirt are intentional but they do help make him look the part of a middle-aged cop. He plays the part with the dignity it deserves and underplays his emotions. Jyothika once again proves that Gautham brings out the best in her, with probably her best role since Kaakka Kaakka. She displays a quietness that one never knew was a part of her. Kamalini Mukherjee makes a mark in the criminally short time she is onscreen. But it is Balaji who is the scene stealer as the killer. Going against the recent trend of quietly chilling villains, he rants and raves and brings to life, a detestable character. Prakashraj is quietly impressive in a cameo.

The cinematography plays a big part in giving a classy, slick sheen to the proceedings. The Karkka Karkka… number scares us about camera tricks being overused but such opulent visual flourishes are limited to the song sequences. While Paartha Mudhal Naale… is the most romantic number, Manjal Veiyil… is the most attractive visually, with the camera taking us on a tour of New York at night (Gautham shows up in the latter, dancing to the Vennilave… bit). Uyirile… occurs at a rather unexpected but emotional moment and so the picturization is not what I expected at all. Neruppe… is an unnecessary item number that Gautham could well have avoided.

Helooo

aDaM & EvE....

aDaM & EvE....

One day, Adam sat outside the Garden of Eden
shortly after eating the apple, and wondered about
men and women. So looking up to the heavens he
says,

"Excuse me GOD, can I ask you a few
questions?"

GOD replied, "Go on Adam but be quick I have a
world to create."

So Adam says,
" When you created Eve, why did you make her
body so curvy and tender unlike mine?"

GOD replied, "I did that, Adam, so that you could
love her."

So Adam says,
"
Oh, well then, why did you give her long, shiny,
beautiful hair, and not me?"

GOD replied,"I did that Adam so that you could love
her."

Adam says, "Oh, well then, why did you make her
so stupid? Certainly not so that I could love her!"

GOD replied," Well Adam, now, I did that so that
she could love you"

a little story...

ere is a little story...that teaches a lot...

A giant ship engine failed. The ship's owners tried
one expert after
another, but none of them could figure but how to
fix the engine. Then
they brought in an old man who had been fixing
ships since he was a young. He carried a large
bag of tools with him, and when he arrived, he
immediately went to work. He inspected the engine
very carefully, top to
bottom.

Two of the ship's owners were there, watching
this man, hoping he would
know what to do. After looking things over, the old
man reached into his
bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently
tapped something.
Instantly, the engine lurched into life. He carefully
put his hammer away.

The engine was fixed! A week later, the owners
received a bill from the
old man for ten thousand dollars.

"What?!" the owners exclaimed. "He hardly did
anything!" So they wrote
the old man a note saying, "Please send us an
itemized bill."

CAN YOU GUESS WHAT WAS THE BREAK
DOWN????

The man sent a bill that read:
Tapping with a hammer. ............. . $ 2.00

Knowing where to tap..........$ 9,998.00

Effort is important ,

but knowing where to make an effort in your life
makes all the difference.
